Research and Development- Technical Program Manager

Zap Energy is looking for a Research & Development Technical Project Manager to help set up the infrastructure for effective project management. This person will introduce a robust scheduling capability in MS Project or similar, and project tracking capability in Jira and Confluence work management systems to help engineering, science and operations teams execute. The ideal candidate habitually takes initiative, is highly organized, and applies excellent written and verbal communication to lead new process rollout. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Develop new business capability, deploy it across the organization and support user adoption in a service-based approach. 
  • Execute a series of sequential projects to introduce impactful business infrastructure in serial, focused deployments. 
  • Document the process, generate training, set expectations and instrument the process to measure efficacy and compliance of the user base. 
  • Configure JIRA projects including service desks, Sprint and Kanban boards. Develop custom fields and ticket types to suit business needs such as risk management, scope change requests, program management review actions, and procurement service desk tickets. 
  • Provide Confluence System Administrator support to the Zap Energy team, configuring templates, providing custom page integration when needed, increasing the level of integration with other toolsets and processes. 
  • Generate a set of project management templates that can be deployed across the company to improve project management practices. 
  • Generate, manage a detailed Integrated Master schedule, and provide scheduling support to the project team. 
  • Track Primary, Secondary and Tertiary critical path for project execution, and drive Zap Energy to expedite work along these paths to pull time out of the schedule. 
  • Generate a resource plan for the project. 
  • Examples of projects include instituting a schedule review and update cadence, developing a commodity categorization and rolling it out to our engineering and supply chain teams, developing a monthly project management review format in Confluence and deploying it, developing a change management ticket within Jira, develop a machining request ticketing system, a procurement support request system, and other similar processes. 

Qualifications and Skills: 

Required: 

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Physics and 5+ years experience  
  • 3+ years developing new products. 
  • 2+ years experience with project scheduling, including a software suite such as MS project, Oracle P6 or equivalent. 
  • 2+ year with system admin level experience with Atlassian software suite. 
  • Experience with product design, manufacturing, supply chain. 
  • Possess high attention to detail and strong organizational/coordination skills 
  • Infectious drive for results, desire to develop impactful toolsets for a fast-moving team. 
  • Must have a demonstrated service-based approach to user adoption – partnering with the user base to ensure the process is effective by understanding and meeting their needs. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting and effective working relationships that improve team performance and deliver results  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. 

 Preferred: 

  • Training or certifications in Atlassian module administration. 
  • Scheduling professional certification (PMI-SP or equivalent). 
  • Project Management Professional certification. 
  • Training and certification for Oracle P6, MS project or equivalent software suite. 
  • Masters in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance or technical field. 
  • Demonstrated project management leadership capability, developing an inclusive culture. 

The estimated salary range for this position is $140k - $190k. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications.  Range is published in accordance with Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act.
